Speech Pathology Initial Licensure for Delaware
According to ASHA, Delaware speech pathology licensure candidates must meet certain requirements for license verification. Candidates can then apply for licensure through the Delaware Board of Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, and Hearing Aid Dispensers.
- Candidates must have a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, communication disorders or speech-language from an accredited institution.1
- Candidates for Delaware speech pathology license must also complete a supervised clinical practicum clocking 400 hours.1
- Candidates must also complete a nine-month supervised clinical fellowship.1
Speech Language Pathology Licensure Exemptions for Delaware
Delaware speech therapy licensure exempts the following individuals: students practicing under a SLP supervisor; non-licensed, non-residents of Delaware performing SLP services no more than 30 days in a calendar year while working with a licensed individual; and licensed people from another state, district or foreign country consulting with a licensed SLP limited to examination, recommendation and testimony in litigation.1
Reciprocity for Speech Therapists in Delaware
Delaware speech language pathology licensure exempts certain individuals. Any licensed individual who is in good standing in another state may be granted a license by the state licensure board. If a licensed applicant from another state with dissimilar licensure requirements wants to apply for a Delaware speech pathology license, they need to provide proof of practice for a minimum of five years after licensure and meet all other qualifications for reciprocity. The Delaware state licensure board may also grant a license to applicants with American Speech-Language Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). Applicants who have received a master’s or doctoral degree foreign institution must submit a certified copy of the school’s record for evaluation.1
Interim Practice for Aspiring Speech Pathologists in Delaware
For speech pathology licensure in Delaware, clinical fellows must obtain a temporary license for no more than one year.1
Continuing Education for Speech Language Pathologists in Delaware
Maintaining a Delaware license requires hours of continuing education. Licensees must complete 30 CE hours per biennial renewal cycle. Dual licensees must complete 15 CEs in each specialty area per two-year license.1
